Stressed out before your Summer holidays?
While speaking to a number of friends over the last few weeks I have noticed just how stressed out some people become just before going on their Summer holidays. Reflecting on my time working at university I do remember the challenges of the need to achieve specific deadlines prior to taking leave. The pressures experienced at this time makes it so hard to relax once away on leave.
Whether the pressures are created by our own individual perceptions of what we want or expect to achieve or whether the pressures are created by organisational expectations, or perhaps a combination of both, it is not clear. The outcome however, can be horrendous.
Before rushing off to the airport, why not consider putting time aside to have some hypnosis? Hypnosis can help you prepare for enjoying your Summer holidays without experiencing the negative outcomes offeeling stressed. However, don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

Building a #relationship with your new #baby
Having a baby can be such a great and exciting time. The relationship you develop with your new baby is so very important for both you and your baby. So much of your baby's future development is dependant on the quality of the #baby-#parent #relationship.
For some soon-to-be-parents becoming a parent can be fraught with tensions and difficulties for a number of reasons. Such difficulties can have a negative impact on the quality of the developing infant-parent relationship.
The #Watson Rooms can support parents to manage their relationship with their baby. Why not get in touch.

Are you #motivated to stop smoking?
Many people who smoke would like to stop. However, for some people the motivation to discontinue is hard to find. For those who find themselves in this position, help is available to support your desire not to smoke anymore.
Motivation can be hard to find however help is at hand. Sometimes being asked the right questions by a skilled person in a safe and supporting environment can highlight pockets of motivation previously hidden from thoughts. Other tools can support smoking cessation such as nicotine replacement, supportive family and friends, hypnosis and a motivational coach. Hey! Don't take my word for it. Explore this for yourselves.

Learning to manage your phobias and fears
We all have them, although some are more pronounced than others....fears and in some cases phobias! They are difficult to manage at times and can be really disruptive, not to mention harmful. For example I met a friend last week and he was telling me that he had to go to the dentist because of some long-term problems he was having with some teeth. Now I have known my friend's fear of the dentist for many years. This deep rooted fear is more complex because of a parallel fear of needles. My friend decided that enough was enough so asked me to work with him so that he can go to the dentist for treatment.
A number of dentists practice, or have access to, clinical hypnosis to support patients who have a fear of attending the dentist for what ever reason. If you experience the same fears as my friend you might want to checkout which dentists offer this service. Hey, don't take my word for it, check it out yourselves.

#Clinical hypnosis
Nowadays, a lot of people have heard of hypnosis. We have experienced a number of TV shows in which hypnosis has been the focus. Usually, this involves one presenter and a very willing audience participating in a number of 'funny' performances by hypnotised volunteers from the audience. This is entertaining but is very different from clinical hypnosis.
Clinical hypnosis, on the other hand, involves one trained facilitator in hypnotic techniques working with one individual with an identified health related condition. There are a number of health related conditions which benefit from the intervention of clinical hypnosis. But hey don't take my word for it! Find out for yourselves and get back to me

#Mindfulness
There have been a number of people discussing the impact of mindfulness. For those of you who might never have heard of this term before, it is defined as:
'a receptive attention to and awareness of present events and experiences' (Brown and Ryan 2003).
Basically, this means being 'in the present'. This involves being aware of our own physical world, emotions, sensations we are experiencing at any given time. This is considered a powerful situation because of the consequences mindfulness can have on human behaviour, cognitions or thoughts,
and our emotions. Think about it! How would mindfulness impact on decision making?

Increasing confidence and #behaviour change
So hypnosis can support developing confidence! A positive move towards growing self confidence can be increasing motivation to change behaviours recognised as unhealthy or unhelpful. This movement towards change can also be supported using the tools of talking therapies or in conjunction with hypnosis. But hey, don't take my word for this possibility, check it out yourselves.

Increasing or restoring confidence
Yesterday I touched on the use of hypnosis to reduce the intensity of chronic pain and as a tool in the management of pain incurred when interventions or procedures are to be carried out. However hypnosis, as a tool, has many uses. For example, hypnosis can also address issues relating to loss of confidence which we can all experience some time in our lives. A lot has been written about improving self confidence in preparation for specific life changing events. Teaching someone to master self hypnosis is also recognised as being very helpful. Why not look it up? You don't have to take my word for it.

#Hypnosis can reduce the intensity of chronic pain
There is now a growing evidence base which confirms the usefulness of hypnosis to reduce the intensity of chronic pain. This is great news for those whose pain results from neurophysiological processes, such a some cancers and other conditions.
Hypnosis works through imagination and suggestion, usually but not always following a period of induction. Induction is the period given towards preparing the client to be more acceptable to suggestions.
Clients who experience chronic pain or who may be exposed to invasive and sometime painful investigations can learn to use self-hypnosis. This provides the opportunity for clients to have more control over such experiences. Why not give this some thought!

Evidence supporting the usefulness of hypnosis
Hypnosis has been associated with health and illness for over one hundred years. That is a long time. However, with the use of modern scanning technology, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and improving research methodologies, there is increasing evidence of the effectiveness of hypnosis in managing certain conditions. This is great news for individuals who are really keen to take greater control over their lives.
But hey, don't take my word for it. All you have to do is 'google' hypnosis on its own or add a specific condition. Have a look at what is being said about the topic you are interested in exploring. If you want to chat about hypnosis because you are just not sure then get in touch with the Watson Rooms to discuss.

Dr Watson's Blog
At the Watson Rooms, talking therapies are the tools used to help people change some aspect of life. This may be to stop smoking, increase exercise, regulate food intake, reduce anxiety or to help control pain. There are other conditions which can also be supported in this way.
Talking therapies involves a range of activities or tools to establish a focus for change and to discover a means of managing that focus through suggestion and by altering perceptions. Such activities help individuals to live, think and focus in the present rather than working on past experiences.
One tool that is often used is hypnosis. Does anyone have experience of using hypnosis or self hypnosis?
Let me know what you think of hypnosis, even if you think you have never been hypnotised!

The main focus at the Watson Rooms is to support and motivate change in people who want to behave or think differently. This may be to achieve goals in personal or professional life, it may also be to improve physical activity, change eating habits, reduce anxiety or manage an aspect of illness such as pain. There are lots of ways the Watson Rooms can support individuals.
While talking therapies plays a crucial part of the change process, this is often used in combination with hypnosis. For the next couple of weeks the purpose of this blog will be to discuss hypnosis, what it is and of course, what it is not. Please join in the discussions because your views on the topic are very important.

Motivating conversations
Yesterday I started my first blog and discussed what motivates us to behave, think or experiences events as we do. We all have different motivations driving us on. I have found over the years that conversations I have experienced with others have at times made me stop and reflect on my own beliefs, thoughts and behaviours. Has this ever happened to you? The conversations are in themselves motivating. Conversations also include emails and social media interactions.
A recent conversation with a friend last week introduced me to a book entitled, 'Eat the frog'. Yes, I know, weird but that is one of the main attractions. Anyway, I just loved the comments by the author, Brian Tracy in the Preface on page ix because he states;
'And forget about solving your time management problems by becoming more productive. No matter how many personal productivity techniques you master, there will always be more to do than you can ever accomplish in the time you have available to you'.
This was great news to me because I am always
running behind. I have never mastered the whole time management bit. Now, I can stop worrying. I recommend this book. Don't worry the title is explained so I will not spoil your read!

What motivates you to get up in the morning?
Hi there! Welcome to Dr Watson's blog. This is my first blog so losts of comments needed, regardless of shape, form or size. The purpose of this blog is to explore what motivates you to behave and think in the way you do, good and/or bad. For example, what motivates you to get up in the morning?
Have you ever thought about what can help to change unwanted behaviours, such as not wanting to get up in the morning, smoking, over eating or under exercising? What would motivate you to change the way you think or behave? Let me know what drives you through the day.
